In 1974, my husband and I belonged to a church in Virginia. One Sunday, there was an older Jewish man visiting, with whom we struck up a conversation. This man loved to put scriptures to music, and he taught me this song. When we parted, he said, “I believe you are the person that is supposed to share this song with the body of Christ.” Now, many years later, I am finally getting around to it! This song is taken from the Book of Exodus. Moses sang this song after the Israelites had crossed the Red Sea, to celebrate their deliverance from slavery to Pharaoh and Egypt. This song has always been one of my favorites because it seems to capture a sense of God’s holiness, awesomeness and power towards those who “prepare Him an habitation.” When I sing this song of Moses, I remember to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10).
The Song of Moses
Who is like unto Thee, O Lord among gods
Who is like unto Thee, glorious in holiness
Fearful in praises, doing wonders
Who is like unto Thee?
O Lord, you’re my God, O Lord, you’re my strength
O Lord, you’re my song, you’re my salvation
You are my God and I will prepare You an habitation
Thy right hand, O Lord, is glorious in power
Thy right hand, O Lord, is righteous in mercy
This is why I sing this song of Moses
To You, my Lord and my God
