“We preach Christ crucified”

Be Anxious For Nothing

There are numerous times in every believer’s life when the circumstances, stresses and fears of life become overwhelming.  Without knowing the truth that we are dead to fear, and no longer have a sinful nature, we will succumb to those fears and be overcome by them, making it impossible to experience “the peace that passes all understanding” that Jesus enabled us to have when He died on the cross.  I often sing this song during those difficult times, and the Lord carries me on the wings of faith.

Be Anxious for Nothing

Be anxious for nothing
But by prayer and supplication
Make your requests known unto God
And the peace that passes all
All understanding
Shall guard your hearts and minds
In Christ Jesus

The Song of Moses

Based on Exodus 15:11, 2, 6 (KJV) © 2014 Samuel House Ministries www.ChristCrucified.info

In 1974, my husband and I belonged to a church in Virginia.  One Sunday, there was an older Jewish man visiting, with whom we struck up a conversation.  This man loved to put scriptures to music, and he taught me this song.  When we parted, he said, “I believe you are the person that is supposed to share this song with the body of Christ.”  Now, many years later, I am finally getting around to it!  This song is taken from the Book of Exodus.  Moses sang this song after the Israelites had crossed the Red Sea, to celebrate their deliverance from slavery to Pharaoh and Egypt.  This song has always been one of my favorites because it seems to capture a sense of God’s holiness, awesomeness and power towards those who “prepare Him an habitation.”  When I sing this song of Moses, I remember to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10).

The Song of Moses

Who is like unto Thee, O Lord among gods
Who is like unto Thee, glorious in holiness
Fearful in praises, doing wonders
Who is like unto Thee?

O Lord, you’re my God, O Lord, you’re my strength
O Lord, you’re my song, you’re my salvation
You are my God and I will prepare You an habitation

Thy right hand, O Lord, is glorious in power
Thy right hand, O Lord, is righteous in mercy
This is why I sing this song of Moses
To You, my Lord and my God

He Is All That I Need

My husband and I were driving in our car one early evening, discussing a problem that seemed overwhelming.  As I was speaking, I began to sing this song, composing it as I went along.  The melody came to me right away and so did the words, without any hesitations or corrections.  It was a victory song from the Holy Spirit, to cheer us and encourage us in the face of discouragement and difficulty.

He Is All That I Need

He is all that I need
All that I need
Jesus is all that I need
He is all that I need
All that I need
Jesus is all that I need

He is Counselor
Prince of Peace
Bright and Morning Star
He is King of Kings
Lord of Lords
Everlasting Father

I will praise Him
Praise Him
Praise the King of Kings
I will praise Him
Praise Him
Praise the King of Kings

Come Lord Jesus!
Lord Jesus!
Maranatha!
Come Lord Jesus!
Lord Jesus!
Maranatha!

Even Though The Fig Tree Does Not Blossom

Based on Habakkuk 3:17-19

When I read this in the Old Testament, I could deeply relate to the prophet Habakkuk’s anguish of heart and disappointment.  I put these words to music during a time of great heartache and sorrow, when it looked like our whole lives had been of waste of time, for it surely appeared that our “fig trees” were not blossoming, our “vines” were producing no fruit, our “olive trees” were barren, our “fields” produced no food, and our “lambs and ewes” had definitely gone astray.  Then came this marvelous, “tone of victory” word: “Yet will I exult in the Lord and yet will I rejoice in God my Savior!”  Then once again, I was seated in “heavenly places with Christ Jesus” and looking at the situation through His eyes, not mine.

Even Though The Fig Tree Does Not Blossom

Even though the fig tree does not blossom
And there is no fruit upon the vines
And though the olive tree is barren
Yet will I exult in the Lord

Even though the fields produce no food to feed us
Even if the lambs and ewes have gone astray
Yet will I rejoice in God my Savior
For He alone is my strength

Chorus
He makes me to walk
With the feet of a deer
On places too high for me

Because He dwells in me
I never will fear
For He is all I need

Preserve Me, O God

Have you ever been in a place where everything seemed hopeless and no answers were to be found?  Where you felt that the circumstances of life had become so insurmountable that you cried out to God with only one sentence, over and over, “Help me God, help me!” because multiple words seemed superfluous and your pain indescribable?  It was a time like that which gave birth to this song.  God did not leave my soul in Sheol, and He did indeed counsel me through “the darkness of night,” step by step.

Preserve Me, O God

Preserve me, O God
Protect me, O God
(For) I take refuge in Thee
I say to the Lord
Thou art my Lord
I have nothing but Thee

(For) Thou, O Lord
Art all that I have
(Thou) givest me all that I need
So beautiful
Thy love to me
Thou art my everything

I bless the Lord
Who counseleth me
In the darkness of night
He is always
Before me
I will not be moved

Therefore my heart
Is glad and rejoices
My flesh dwells securely in Thee
Thou wilt not leave
My soul in Sheol
Therefore I glory in Thee

The Spirit Of The Lord

From Isaiah 11:2

This song describes our Lord Jesus, who is living inside of each of us who have been born again.  We can depend, therefore, on His wisdom, His understanding, His counsel and His strength.  The Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord now inhabit us, enabling us to turn away from evil (Proverbs 3:7).  We are no longer under the vice grip of Satan and sin.  When Jesus died on the cross, He gave us Himself.

The Spirit Of The Lord

The Spirit of the Lord rests on Him
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding
The Spirit of counsel and of strength
The Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord

The Spirit of the Lord rests on me
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding
The Spirit of counsel and of strength
The Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord

The Spirit of the Lord rests on you
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding
The Spirit of counsel and of strength
The Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord

Deliver Me From My Enemies

From Psalm 59:16-17

It is an eye-opening experience, having an enemy.  The challenge is to keep your own heart free of the corresponding hatred that would naturally develop, in response.  One of the best ways to keep your heart flowing clear is to pray for your enemy, forgiving them completely and continually!  If you are a Christian who has been born of the Spirit, you are capable of doing this, because you are “dead to sin and alive to God (Romans 6:11).”  This flow of forgiveness on your part opens the door for God to work a miracle, and sometimes, an enemy can become your dear friend.  This can be an unexpected way that God “delivers” you.

Deliver Me From My Enemies

Deliver me from my enemies
Deliver me, oh my God
Defend me from them
That rise up against me
In the day of my trouble

But I will sing of Thy power
Yea, I will sing aloud of Thy mercy
In the morning, or Thou hast been
My defense and my refuge
In the day of my trouble

Unto Thee, oh my strength
Will I sing, will I sing
Unto Thee, Oh my strength
Will I sing, will I sing

Thou Shalt Love The Lord

From Luke 10:27

Until I understood what Jesus had bought for me on the cross, I used to read this verse and my heart would sink.  I knew this is what God expected of me, but the harder I tried to fulfill this command, the more I failed.  It wasn’t until I understood that I am (as a born of the Spirit believer) dead to sin and alive to God, that I then realized (by faith) that to live like this was really possible, because God Himself had made it possible, by dying for me.  I am now capable of loving God the way He deserves.  It is a love relationship enabled by Jesus’ death on the cross.

Thou Shalt Love The Lord

Thou shalt love the Lord
Thy God with all thy heart
And with all thy soul
And with all thy strength
And with all thy mind
And thy neighbor as thyself
Thou shalt love the Lord, thy God

Have Mercy On Me

From Psalm 51:1-4, 6-8, 15, 17

Once, when I was a brand new Christian, I was led by the Holy Spirit to read this psalm out loud to God.  I didn’t understand it then but it was a prophetic act, because thirty years later, I too, like David, had turned away from the Lord in my heart and “done evil in God’s sight.”  But oh!  The mercy of God!  When I came back to Him, He wrapped His wonderful arms around me and completely forgave me!  So, you see, I know this song intimately.

Have Mercy On Me

Have mercy on me, oh my God
According to Thy lovingkindness
According unto the multitude
Of Thy tender mercies

Oh blot out all my transgressions
And thoroughly wash me from my sin
For I acknowledge my transgressions
They are always before me

Against Thee and Thee only
Have I sinned in Thy sight
For Thou art justified when Thou speakest
And blameless when you judge

Chorus
Purge me with hyssop
And I shall be clean
Wash me and I shall be
Whiter than snow

Oh make me to hear joy and gladness
And let my broken bones rejoice
For Thou desirest truth within me
And wisdom in my soul

Oh Lord, open Thou my lips
That I may show forth Thy praise
The sacrifices of the Lord
Are a broken, contrite heart

Blessed Is The Man

Psalm 1 © 2007 Samuel House Ministries www.ChristCrucified.info

One of the best ways to “meditate day and night on the law of the Lord” is to memorize Scripture songs.  Long passages can be remembered this way, and the heart can be instructed and encouraged by them at any time, because they will be carried along inside of you, not in a book.  Once, when I was in the hospital, experiencing a lot of pain and sorrow, a dear nurse’s aide came to my room every day and, standing next to my bed, sang Scripture songs to me.  I wept hot tears because of my suffering, but I also wept for joy in the Lord.  I never forgot the power those songs had to cheer me up and keep my faith strong.

Blessed Is The Man

Blessed is the man that walketh not in
The counsel of the ungodly
Nor standeth in the way of sinners
Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful
But his delight is in the law of the Lord
And in His law doth he
Meditate day and night

And he shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water
That bringeth forth its fruit in his season
Its leaf also shall not wither
And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper

The ungodly are not so
But they are like the chaff
Which the wind driveth away
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous

For the Lord knows the way of the righteous
But the way of the wicked shall not last
