Although these verses are speaking about interceding for the earthly Jerusalem, on another level, this song is about interceding for the establishment of the new Jerusalem, the Bride of Christ. It is about preparing the way for the Bride by “going through the gates, clearing the way for the people, building up the highway and removing the stones” of ignorance, misinformation and misunderstanding so that the Bride of Christ may be “blessed by the God of truth (Isaiah 65:16)” and knowing the truth, be set free. Jesus said, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free (John 8:31-32).”
On Your Walls, O Jerusalem
On your walls, O Jerusalem
I have appointed watchmen
All day and all night
They never will keep silent
Chorus
You who remind the Lord
Take no rest for yourselves
Give Him no rest
Until He establishes Jerusalem
Go through, go through the gates
Clear the way for the people
Build up, build up the highway
Remove the stones
You will also be a crown
Of beauty in the hand of the Lord
And a royal diadem
In the hand of your God
For the Lord delights in you
As a groom rejoices o’re the bride
So your God will rejoice over you
O Jerusalem
